Jesus Built My Pedicab

from Dissonant Creatures by Aaron Kerr's Dissonant Creatures

/

about

If you remember 1991, you might remember a song by a band called Ministry: "Jesus Built My Hot Rod," which is where I got this name from. I don't have a ho rod, but I do have a pedicab. A pedicab, technically, is a tricycle with a carriage, or cab, in the back. What I have is actually a regular bicycle with a 2-wheeled trailer attached to the seat post. It is 105 pounds, all steel, and looks like a sofa on wheels. I think the carrying capacity is 800 pounds--it is a monster. I use the pedicab to haul my kids around (3 of whom now ride their own bikes). It's also handy for hauling other things, like groceries and music equipment. I love getting around on my own power, which sometimes isn't easy. It requires preparation, patience, and a little skill to navigate. Ultimately, it is rewarding, which is why I do it. You learn to appreciate the journey, and not focus so much on getting to places quickly. Life is too easy--you need a challenge to appreciate it more.
