It Was An Accident

from Arco 71 by Aaron Kerr

/

about

The title of this song comes from my daughter, Reagan, who would do things like purposefully knock her brother into a wall which would then require a trip to the hospital and 9 stitches in his head (she was 4, he was 2). After such incidents, she would simply say, "It was an accident." Like it wasn't her fault. I recorded this piece downstairs in my basement on a 4 track recorder. Reagan, still around 4 years old, was both the composer and performer of the piece. She is now 12 years old and becoming a great pianist--I am really proud of her accomplishments with music. Teaching kids music can be as simple as giving them a slide whistle and a drum and letting them discover how to make a composition. This is how all great composers get started--they sit on the kitchen floor and bang on pats and pots and make music.
